Kids and families from a scavenger community spent a couple of days having fun at a camp surrounded by nature in Tepoztlan.

The Royal Holiday Foundation with its project Vacations for All extended a heartwarming invitation to 100 kids and their guardians from a scavenger  community in Chimalhuacan, Mexico State, to a well-deserved vacation planned with the YMCA where they were able to emerge in nature and explore Tepoztlan.

As laughters filled the air, some of these children experienced their first vacation first vacation spending nights amidst wooded cabins serenaded by nature’s melody.

Throughout their stay, they were all part of different fun activities that helped them strengthen their family affectionate bonds by getting to know each other better and just letting go of all of their worries for a little bit. The kids were a part of different challenges, dynamics, and activities such as rallies, outdoor games, and water activities which allowed them to simply enjoy the vacation and make new friends. These activities also promoted self-discovery and self-trust, as well as important life values.

In the camp’s pool, some of the kids learned how to swim for the first time. Some of the youngest kids had the chance to swim with their mothers and experience the magical feeling of floating on the water.

Other activities that they were able to enjoy in the YMCA camp included games where they had to use their imagination, bonging with nature and learning about different types of trees, activities that helped develop and strengthen the brain, and even enjoying a natural spa with face masks.

Although there were smiles and laughs throughout the trip, the last night was the most enjoyable. All the campers spent a lovely night by the bonfire sharing stories and eating marshmallows looking at the sky full of stars.

All the memories of this trip will leave a mark on these kids’ lives and we hope they take some of these leanings and implement them into their futures.
