Thanks to the partnership between Royal Holiday Foundation and the Mexican Confederation of Organizations for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (CONFE), a group of former students  enjoyed a magical camp in Camohmila, Tepoztlán, Morelos. For many, this was their first camping experience,  which became an opportunity to discover new skills, spend time together as a family, and strengthen bonds in the middle of nature.

“A very satisfying life experience. Thank you for  seeing with love  people with intellectual disabilities, for taking them into account. They were immensely happy.”
Patricia, mother of a former CONFE student with an intellectual disability

CONFE is a non-profit civil association that brings together various organizations to defend the rights of persons with intellectual disabilities, promote social awareness, and influence public policies. It also offers early intervention for infants and training and job inclusion programs for youth and adults.

During the camp, everyone enjoyed sports games, pool time, a cooking class, an exciting disco night full of dancing and energy, as well as a campfire that brought everyone together to sing, laugh and share marshmallows. Each activity boosted their confidence, autonomy, and connection with their loved ones.

“I am aware that I am more independent.” Santiago, former CONFE student with an intellectual disability

The experience left a profound mark not only on the beneficiaries, but also on their families, the counselors of Camohmila YMCA Camp, and the staff of Royal Holiday Foundation.

One more reminder that small actions can transform lives.
