Starting high school is one of the most significant moments in any young person’s life. It marks the beginning of a stage filled with greater maturity, academic challenges, and the development of new identities and dreams. To support this transition with empathy and closeness, 42 students and 4 teachers from Christel House of Mexico took part in a camp specially designed to welcome them into this new chapter.

As several new students joined the school at this stage, the main goal of the gathering was to encourage integration, social interaction, and the creation of a safe space where everyone could get to know one another outside the classroom.

Throughout the camp, collaboration was at the heart of the experience. Through fun activities such as the “shoe tower,” group skill challenges, and various integration games, the students learned the value of communication, trusting those around them, and supporting one another as they faced each challenge.

Everyday moments became opportunities to connect. Conversations over meals helped them discover shared interests, while time in the pool was not only a chance to play and have fun, but also the perfect setting for relaxed conversations and new friendships.

One of the most moving moments of the day came when each student wrote a personal letter to their future self. The letters captured their dreams, goals, and emotions as they began high school and will be carefully kept until graduation, when they will open them again and reflect on how much they have grown.

To close the experience, everyone gathered around a traditional campfire as evening fell. While enjoying classic toasted marshmallows, they reflected on the important journey ahead. They talked about the significance of this new stage of high school and how the friendships they build over these three years can become important sources of support throughout their lives.
